Ecdysis.
(Written on 31 December 2014. Dedicated to the memory of my beautiful 'cousin' and friend, Dean Lal.)
Yesterday, whilst discussing with a colleague what each of our low-key New Year’s Eve plans were, I said to her “it’s just another day.”
She agreed.
Indeed it is 'just another day'. But unless you live alone on a desolate island, the common traditions of wishing one another a “Happy New Year”; celebrating under fireworks with friends and family; reflecting on the highs and lows of the year that’s about to end; and setting new goals and resolutions for ourselves in the new calendar year to come, are all somewhat hard to ignore.
So I decided to take this hype for what it is, and analyse the positivity of the momentum.
The beginning of a new calendar year - whether it be the Gregorian, Julian, Burmese, Islamic, Ethiopian, Chinese, or Hebrew – any calendar that you choose to follow, can be used to signify both counting the days of your life, as well as a stimulus for re-birthing it.
Think of yourself like a cicada with its life-cycle on repeat.
In order to develop, this insect undergoes the process of ‘ecdysis’, in which it sheds off its old exoskeleton, in order to grow a new one.
Its protective, hard, strong exoskeleton is what carries its boneless body together. When the cicada is ready to moult, its exoskeleton splits open, allowing the insect to expand to a larger size before its new exoskeleton hardens. The cicada still carries its same being underneath both its old and new exoskeletons, but its natural ecdysis process is an opportunity for growth, redevelopment, and a new beginning… a rebirth of itself.
So in light of tomorrow, which opens a new calendar year for myself and anyone else applying the Gregorian calendar to their respective lifecycles, I would like to (ironically) share this image of one of the most well-known Hindu deities, ‘Ganesha’.
In Hinduism, Ganesha is believed to represent as the Lord of New Beginnings, Good Fortune, and the Remover of Obstacles.
Happy Ecdysis to all. ©

It's dark now.

The light has been eliminated
But I'm still awake.
You were here
I couldn't see where you were, but I felt you
And I knew you were here
Safely beside me
But it's dark now
And I don't feel you
I search, I try to find you again
Somehow
And if I can't find you, I try to lose you
I need to do this for my sanity.
There you are
Not to be felt
Not to be seen
Just there
Haunting, lingering
I wait
Hoping and longing for the morning.©
"We shall amplify love."
I didn't actually write this, but I believe in the truth of these words and thought it was worth sharing. It's an excerpt from 'The Motivation Manifesto: 9 Declarations to Claim Your Personal Power', by author Brendon Burchard.
"... We are not transmitting or receiving love as we were divinely intended to—we are filtering love rather than feeling it. We fell for the prevailing hysteria that said, “Protect your heart,” and we began to believe that love itself had enemies and needed protecting.
When we were hurt, we felt that love was somehow diminished or damaged. But hurt has nothing to do with love, and love is unaffiliated with and unaffected by pain. Ego was hurt, not love. Love is divine; it is everywhere, ever present and abundant and free. It is a spiritual energy that is, at this very moment, flowing through the universe—through us, through our enemies, through our families, through billions of souls. It was never absent from our lives. It is not bound in our hearts or in our relationships, and thus it is not capable of being owned or lost.
We have allowed our awareness of love to diminish; that is all. In doing so, we have caused our own suffering. We must mature and realize that freeing our mind of ancient hurts and opening once more to love shall give us access to divine strength.
To stand emotionally open before the world and give of our hearts without fear of hurt or demand of reciprocity—this is the ultimate act of human courage. For this, we now declare: WE SHALL AMPLIFY LOVE."
