I am not entirely sure what topical trend I will follow with the creation of this blog, or whether I will follow one at all. It may well turn out to be, at times, a simple premeditated regurgitation and display of the wonderful and not-so-wonderful sights and things I have seen and done. Or it may well be an inordinate spontaneous rant of the experiences and feelings that are forever etched in my mind and in my heart - in particular, those that are delivered from being somewhere foreign to an individual. These can easily be labeled as a mixture of awe, fear, fascination, intrigue, excitement, wonder, discomfort, happiness, disbelief, nervousness, amazement…. the list goes on. However, each of these feelings will be different to each individual, and in turn, something different will be taken and held at a different value for each individual.
This, of course, will be dependent on one’s passion and interest, and whether or not it is passion alone that brought them there. This is what differentiates the types of feelings involved and the quality of the experience. For example, traveling to a place purely to see your home country and family there would be different to an individual traveling to a place purely to ‘getaway’ or for a holiday, as would an individual who comes to a place with the desire to explore or with a long-standing interest in a country and its culture. It could very well be that the motivation of travel is a mixture of all of these if not one, but for some, the motivation is driven purely by passion.
Not everyone will understand this passion, some much more than others. I can confidently say that there are only a handful of people I have encountered that understands and feels my passion with me - that understands the feeling of unsettledness and displacement and the desire to face the challenge of being outside your comfort zones; that understands why tears formed in my eyes (as well as the jetlag it was accompanied by) on the first day I arrived in England and saw the Big Ben tower before me after years of planning and dreaming and months and months of working and saving; that understands the feeling of not having seen enough or done enough; that understands the absurdity of wanting to visit every place possible that the world has to offer; that understands the euphoria involved when you step off a plane into another place and inhale its air as your eyes and imagination absorb what is only the beginning of what awaits you... That understands the longing to experience the foreign.
Your passion will be fit in to become a part of your priorities. Passion and desire go hand in hand. If you desire something enough, your emotions and your actions will be driven by your passion to get it. Without passion you have no desire; and without desire you have no passion. From this point on, I primarily intend to explore my passion and my desire, which I hope will speak for itself in due course.©
